Sit With is a social good startup dedicated to creating solutions, such as tools and community, to solve systemic problems fast & improve social determinants of health. For more information on Sit With, visit their website.

Helping people has always been at the core of my creativity

Helping people has always been at the core of my creativity

It all started from a group chat that I was a part of before, and I stumbled upon a message that showcased a video that was shared about what Sit With was building. I learned more about it and wanted to be a part of the change I wanted to see in tech and communities, so I sent a message that I was interested in volunteering and using my UX/UI design skills to enhance their product.

Elevating the experience of Help With

Elevating the experience of Help With

I saw the potential of what Help With stood for and for the many people who could benefit from a tool to help with their inner world due to social stressors. The video you see was built using v0 by Vercel. The vision was going down a good path, but it lacked not only the brand essence of Sit With but also the delightful experience such as usability and accessibility. Moreover, the founder of Sit With Teresa had many ideas of what Help With could do but wasn’t sure which approach would help to ship and test with the users.

How might we design a gentle web app that helps people connect with their inner world through CBT and narrative therapy, technology, and community?

An MVP for Help With

An MVP for Help With

The first Vercel iteration was a solid start. By blending Teresa’s decade of therapeutic experience with UX techniques like benchmarking, ideation, and information architecture, we created a focused MVP to support inner healing with clarity, compassion, and accessibility.

The previous iteration didn’t have any invitation to share what Help With was truly about, so we designed content that allowed people who know or are new to the tools to discover Help With’s offerings.

An intuitive and accessible entry process to start using Help With

The Vercel iteration was a good start, but the buttons were difficult to use, and the experience felt overwhelming due to excessive information. We decided to streamline it with a step-by-step entry process for a smoother, more accessible experience.

Adding resources to support after an entry

Adding resources to support after an entry

What happens after someone has made an entry at Help With? It was paramount to provide resources and community care using Help With; after making an entry on Help With, users are guided to an Aftercare page for grounding, with resources and community support from Sit With, similar to post-therapy care.

What are the next steps?

What are the next steps?

This is an ongoing volunteer project. The next steps involve developing the web app and testing the MVP with real user groups to ensure Help With effectively addresses both therapeutic and UX/UI needs and make necessary improvements. I’d also like to expand the design system of Help With, learn more about accessibility standards and adapt it for a desktop-first experience, leveraging its already responsive design that could elevate my skills as a UX/UI designer. As a result, this case study will be updated soon.

Key takeaways

1.

Volunteering for a cause I believe in has been deeply rewarding. Designing for healing taught me to lead with empathy and hold space for complexity—in both people and products. It’s energizing to contribute meaningfully alongside others passionate about accessible healing.

2.

This experience sharpened my ability to design with emotional nuance. I had to think not only about usability but also about creating a sense of psychological safety.

3.

I still have a long way to go, but this project has given me the “hell yes” to go further into not only building accessible products for the people but also learn new ways to level up my skills, such as learning more about accessibility and the development stages of a product.

Special shout out to Teresa from Sit With for being an incredible workmate and for providing me this rewarding opportunity. I can’t wait to see the impact Help With will build for the world.
